As a training consultant I’ve designed and delivered a wide variety of training courses within the corporate sector and as an independent training consultant.
I am an Associate CIPD member and have a Level 3 in Direct Learning and Support that includes the A1 Assessor unit. I am more than happy to work with larger L&D agencies to help them with course delivery or development.
In 2017, I started working with The Coaching Academy as an Internal Assessor for their SFEDI Level 5 Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching.
How I became a Training Consultant
I joined South West Trains in 1998 as a member of their front line customer service and I became a vocational coach within this role. I’ve been involved in training and developing people since March 2003, initially as a Retail Trainer, then a Senior Customer Service Trainer; before gaining promotion to become a Training Delivery Manager.
Those initial 9 years of facilitating, planning and delivering courses enabled me to see and experience, first-hand, how training courses have to balance addressing the objectives of the company, develop employees, and satisfy the needs of customers.
It provided an eye-opening and truly rewarding experience, as well as a career. So, when I stepped up to the next level by becoming a Talent Development Manager for the company, I already understood how great training benefited all parties. This allowed me to add value to South West Trains Learning & Development programme by designing and delivering their Management Trainee Scheme and Management Learning Programmes.
In August 2014, I decided to broaden my experience within the Learning & Development industry, took the plunge, and became a freelance Corporate and Business Training Specialist.
Why I became a Training Consultant
The companies I’ve worked for strongly believed in the value of supporting and developing their staff through training and coaching. Over the years I’ve seen staff develop their skills, improve their career opportunities and grow as people; learning how to communicate and work more effectively with colleagues and customers.
As a professional trainer, I’ve delivered over 20 different types of courses, including leadership and management training, solving problems and making decisions, changing perceptions and behaviours, diversity and inclusion, and performance management. All of this encouraged me to grow as a person, introduced me to new skills, improved my knowledge and understanding of people, and my career flourished as a result.
As importantly (for me) I realised how much enjoyment I get from seeing the way coaching empowers people to improve themselves, their lives and their careers…and that provided the incentive for me to qualify as a Personal Development and Life Coach and, more recently, as an Internal Assessor for The Coaching Academy.
I take tremendous pride in training the next generation of trainers, while continuing to design and deliver training for companies (either directly or through L&D agencies).
